Foundation Forward: Building a Stronger Community Together

Nov 21, 2023

On #GivingTuesday, November 28, 2024, we invite you to join us, as we build on our 137 year foundation of supporting businesses and connecting our connecting our community through the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce. The Foundation Forward campaign goes directly to renovation of the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce’s building at 528 Main St supporting our ongoing work for the Longmont Community.

Fundraising on #GivingTuesday is new to us— as a 501(c)6 organization, the Longmont Chamber operates solely on the dues of our members and the sponsorship of our programs. With the help of the Longmont Community Foundation, we started the Foundation Forward fund so all contributions are a charitable donation and everyone has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact to support this effort.

In the spirit of collective impact, I’m excited to share that we’ve received four generous donations of $5000, towards a $20,000 match incentive for #GivingTuesday. For every dollar raised, twice the impact will be made propelling us closer to our goal.

One donor, Daniel Yerger, has been a member of the Longmont Chamber since he opened his business. Read his story on why contributing to the Foundation Forward campaign was important to him:

“How could I not?” That’s the simple question that came to mind when I was asked to donate to the Longmont Area Chamber’s capital campaign to rebuild the chamber building. After all, when I started my business just over eight years ago, the first thing I did was join the Chamber of Commerce. There I “found my tribe” as the saying goes.

To take a business from a coffee table in an apartment to an employer of many is not a feat that happens by accident. It’s not a simple act of sheer will or tenacity, but the community around a business that brings that business to life; and a community like the business community in Longmont doesn’t happen by accident. It happens through the commitment of its members, both owners and employees, to making that community a better place for everyone.

It’s easy for me to give to this campaign because my business would not be here today without the community the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce has built for the past 137 years. Seven generations of business owners have come together in this community to uplift each other, to inspire and support the dreams and aspirations of its members, with the chamber of commerce at the heart of it all.

I hope the next seven generations can carry the torch forward just as well; so let’s help them do so, by taking time to give back to an organization that has helped make this possible for us all. How could we not?
