Below is the message Scott Cook took to the Longmont City Council. The City Council agenda can be read here.
Longmont was founded as a colony that embraced a positive balance between business and residential neighborhoods. It has grown into a vibrant city with passionate citizens. The Chamber of Commerce feels both of these are essential to foster a thriving community where people would like to continue to invest.
As we make updates, it is important to adopt code that honors our history and builds for our future. We believe the building height recommended in the draft Residential Transition Standards in the Land Development Code is a compromise that does just that.
As we continue to make progress, infill and redevelopment of the Downtown core is essential. It is a sustainable strategy that our city needs to preserve its land and resources. With thoughtful redevelopment of our core, we are able to maximize our land and infrastructure
We urge you to keep the transition standards in the development code consistent with the all the mixed use zones in the city and not put further restrictions within the Central Business District.
